New Toro Y Moi : 'Still Sound'
Columbia, South Carolina's Chaz Bundick (aka Toro Y Moi) has been steadily rising as a leader in the chillwave genre since the release of his debut album, Causers of This, and I'm absolutely loving this guy. He also has a side project which is completely amazing called Les Sins and upon first listen you will dance until you bleed from the knees. I realize that that doesn't sound like a good time but trust me on this one. The music speaks for itself.
Toro Y Moi's latest single 'Still Sound' from his upcoming record, Underneath The Pine, due out February 22nd via Carpark Records is a bit more bouncy than his previous release and makes me feel like I'm living in the seventies for four and a half groovy minutes. When Chaz first signed to Carpark Records, the plan was to release two records in 2010-- one electronic and one with live instrumentation--and although it didn't quite fit into the same calendar year as his debut, Underneath the Pine is that latter offering. Check the song below, it's totally great...

Spokes: Everyone I Ever Met
Spokes certainly know how to build a masterpiece of a record with each song sounding like a magnum opus. From the very start of five piece Manchester based Spokes new record Everyone I Ever Met through to the end, it's hard not to feel like each song is giving you a great big fat hug. And while you're enjoying the gentle embrace of the music, lyrics slowly cocks her head, leans in to your ear and whispers ever so gently sweet nothings to you the entire time, raising the hair on the back of your neck having you feel like you are with your secret lover, naked and in the dark.
Title track 'Everyone I Ever Met' is grandiose and majestic and completely encapsulates the sound that Spokes effortlessly weave through the entire album. The song ebbs and flows for five minutes moving along from a spellbinding stillness into a rowdy, boisterous instrumental blowout and then digresses to the quiet from before, adding this time, vocals that will absolutely melt your heart. On any given song when the collective choral vocals of Owain, Matthew, Liam, Ruth & John-Michael enter the picture you are already steeped in such hearty emotion that it's easy to get wrapped up, swept away and eventually lost in their words.
Spokes create a beautiful, uplifting and at times an almost mournful soundscape replete with olympian orchestral swells, quiet angelic croons, and songs that build to massively gorgeous climaxes that will have you floating on feelings of euphoria days after having listened to the record.

To quote Brandon: Bunnyhawks turned two. Threw a party in a bar made of trains. Got a pinata from Sean DeTore. Swung at it with a fire axe.
Not a bad way to spend a Saturday.

New music: Data Romance
This duo from Vancouver, Data Romance, aka Ajay Bhattacharyya and Amy Kirkpatrick are completely blowing me away with their song 'Bones'. The song is trancey and explosive and Amy's vocals are completely mezmerizing. I want romance with some data! Data Romance also have a new video for their song 'Bones' which premiered on AUX and you can check it below.
If you want to download the song 'Bones' you can do that at their website for the price of a tweet and while you're there you should check some of their other tracks and learn about these guys.
Oh, I almost forgot. Another reason these guys rule is that they use a Monome as part of their act. I don't really understand the Monome completely (like are you supposed to remember where you programed all your sounds? that seems really hard.) but it looks really cool and it makes neat beats...
