Gary Payton admires trash-talking Jets

By Brady Henderson
Gary Payton grew up in Oakland and spent the majority of his NBA career in Seattle, but there's one obvious reason why he has an admiration for a football team from New York.
Payton checked in with the Groz on Wednesday and among the topics discussed was the brash and unfiltered Jets.
"I love (Rex) Ryan. I love him to death because all he does is speak his mind and he talks trash," Payton said. "And that's what I like. And they back it up."
And they play pretty good defense, too. Sound familiar?
Payton, who will present an award with Kevin Calabro at the Sports Star of the Year banquet on Wednesday, was known during his 17-year NBA career as an outstanding defender and an equally proficient trash talker.
He also discussed his family, how he almost never went to Oregon State, how he thinks the 1996 NBA Finals could have turned out differently and more. You can listen to the interview here.

Colin came to 710 ESPN Seattle after five years at various FM music stations in Bellingham and Seattle. Plus he likes tons of bands you've never heard of, and once you hear of them he'll stop liking them.Copyright © 2013 Bonneville International. All rights reserved.
