Harvard protest of Starbucks CEO

Comments   |   Print this   |   E-mail this   |   Tweet this   |   digg this

Protestors say they'll try to disrupt Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz's speech to Harvard business students today.

They say Schultz is a hypocrite to call employees "partners" when Starbucks is one of the least labor friendly companies in America.

Schultz"For Howie to sit around and claim how much he loves us, it’s just disgusting. Starbucks is one of the biggest union busting corporations in the United States," Liberte Locke tells The Harvard Crimson. She's one of those organizing the protest.

Starbucks hasn't responded yet to my questions about the labor claims.

Schultz is on a tour promoting his new book "Onward" and he'll lecture to business students.

    Hurray!
Another group against schultz. Let's go to a sonics game at the key tonight, oh wait. How anyone can ignore their conscience and go pay five bucks for a cup of burnt coffee I'll never understand.

    no Schultz fan but
come on Liberte. Where else can you get a job pouring coffee and receive benefits for working 20 hours a week? If you don't like it, don't work there. Also, for a Union to be "busted" doesn't it need to exist in an environment first? That Harvard education is sure paying off isn't it?

ok, apparently there are unionized Starbucks employees in some states. My bad. Still, if it is so bad, why not look somewhere else for employment?

    Harvard free speech?
Yeah, this is what I would want to see if I'm a parent paying $100G/year to send my kid to Harvard. A bunch of know-nothing idiots shutting down the free speech rights of one of the most successful CEO's in the country. Nothing to learn from him...

The Weasel has much to teach
If you are interested in how to s-c-r-e-w- over a city and flush 41 years of tradition and local commerce down the toilet. BTW…ever notice how anytime Weasel or his crappy coffee company is mentioned at MYNW.com; NOBODY has anything good to post about him? This is because the bile still burns in the stomach of every Seattleite that laments the pathetic stewardship the S.S.S. under Weasel Shultz and every business on lower Q.A. that has suffered since he sold out.

So if you someone doesn't agree with you
You shout them down in an unrelated forum? You lose that debate, and wasted your time at Harvard, Ms Locke.

    Ugh...
You're baristas that get paid really well for what you do and get great health benefits... A union won't help you. My union makes sure I get comparable(sp?) pay in my field of work. If a union at Starbucks did that, you would lose money!!! I loved my job at Starbucks when I had it and when it was no longer enough money I moved on like all the other half-intelligent people. I didn't sit and protest and complain.
