Left-wing email of the day
From "Carl":
David,
Can you deny that your party is homophobic?
Can you deny that it is full of a-holes - what's with the opposition to the START treaty - wouldn't these same good old boys be all for it if it had come up under a GOP President? Isn't they play all about denying Obama an easy victory?
Teabaggers, please stop referring to yourselves as independents - conservative GOP all the way.
C
My Response:
1. "homophobic" is an idiotic term that means nothing other than, "I am going to label you so that any disagreement with my ideas is a disease."--It's argument by assertion and ridiculous, so be more specific and don't give in to the foolishness. Clearly, fear of homosexuals doesn't cut it or conservatives wouldn't be watching "Modern Family", listening to Elton John, or working side by side with individuals of this persuasion across the country (not to mention protesting their persecution in Islamic states).
2. START-- the elected GOP is split on this. It strikes me that they are trying to determine what is best for the country, which is more than I can say for the pathetic Democrats who demonized Iraq, Gitmo, etc at every chance they got, but not much more than a peep when their own party took control. Now THAT showed a partisan mindset.
3. Independents tend to be more conservative. "Moderate" tends to mean liberal.

Give a little for the Warriors!! Christmas Fundraiser for Heartbeat Serving Wounded Warriors
Today's the day!! 4-6pm, I'll be trying something different in an attempt to generate funds for Heartbeat Serving Wounded Warriors. I've asked local artists and would-be singers to send me recordings of their performances of their favorite Christmas carols so that we can have an on-air, KTTH Christmas Concert. A few people will perform live. In addition, I may play some of my favorites. In between the songs, I hope to convince you to make a contribution to Heartbeat. It's an organization I've long supported on my show, and you've always come through in their time of need.
To get a head start, if you plan to donate via snail mail, please make checks payable to "Heartbeat Serving Wounded Warriors" and send them ASAP care of "The David Boze Show" to :
1820 Eastlake Ave East Seattle WA 98102
IF you choose to donate via paypal online, use this link.
IF YOU CAN'T GET THROUGH, TEXT or CALL the founder of Heartbeat Serving Wounded Warriors and make your pledge so you won't forget!! Give Janice your contact number and the amount you want to pledge, then she'll contact you later to walk you through how to make it happen! Janice Buckley 425-931-1047
Then, so that we can keep track of what's coming in, please email me at dboze@ktth.com with "DONATION" in the subject heading and let me know what you've contributed. This way we can tally up the total for the fundraiser. I don't know if this will raise $50, $5,000 or $50,000, but I know the cause, aid to soldiers and their families who have come home wounded, is a needed one.
Heartbeat is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and donations ARE tax deductible.
Thank you in advance, and please spread the word.

Obama fights for our privacy
I was reading in the Wall Street Journal today about President Obama's concern that there was too much information gathering going on on the internet, and that the federal government would need to get involved to "restore consumer confidence."
I confess, I laughed.
While there are indeed dangers on the internet regarding too much of your personal information being gathered, I found it funny that the federal government, with the President losing the faith of the American people and Congress at a whopping 13 percent approval rating, should take it upon themselves to restore consumer confidence in the internet, something everyone of every age is increasingly relying on.
Also, the same government that wants us to pose naked at the airport is concerned with protecting our privacy on the web.....

The "Will of the People"
One of the things we'll be talking about today is "the will of the people." Governor Gregoire and others have been told not to suspend initiatives that limit spending and/or make it more difficult to raise taxes because it is against "the will of the people." But now, the Governor plans on suspending iniatives that passed by substantial margins because they COST money. Is that, as some have claimed, against the "will of the people" as well? How should a politician determine the "will of the people" and should they always follow that?

Animal video that made me laugh
Heck, no one seems in the mood for politics right now, so why not an animal video that makes you laugh?

Father says it was his "duty"
Don't mess with Helmut Seifret. When he found out his 17-year-old daughter was romantically entangled with 57-year-old Phillip Genscher, he took the liberty of untangling Mr. Genscher's danglings, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Apparently the police couldn't/wouldn't interfere with the relationship, so he determined his "duty as a father" was to end it himself or, more accurately, end it himself with the aid of two friends from the factory and a breadknife... with a serraded edge...

Ouch, ouch, ouch.

Warning: Pretending to Smoke is Hazardous to Your Health
Just when you thought the nanny state couldn't get any bigger, King County's health department is cracking down on non-smokers.... people who "smoke" FAKE cigarettes because it might "influence youth."
Why stop there?
Why not mandate an edit of Casablanca? Or protest awards granted to "The King's Speech"?
In the name of "protecting the youth", they treat adults like youth.
I guess we should look at it like a job creation project... they've already banned cigarette smoking, so they had to think of something else to justify their positions.
I guess it's time to ban non-alcoholic beer, insulin injections, public displays of affection (who knows where that could lead the kids), non-vegetables, and large-portion meals.....

Government freezes hiring... by hiring.
The News Tribune of Tacoma had a great story about this state's hiring freeze, under which state agencies have hired 1,700 people since March. These hires even include lobbyists, because we all know that the taxpayers should be paying extra to someone who can lobby for even more of their tax money in Olympia.
The gist of the story is that while legislators instituted a freeze unless the job is "critically necessary", but that doesn't mean "critically necessary" to the functioning of the state. For a hypothetical example, if the state created a program for styling prisoners' hair, and it was under this freeze, they might still be able to hire hair stylists because they would be "critical" to the continuance of the program (note: this is NOT a real program, just an illustration.).
We'll take a closer look at this and what should be done today.
